Eddie Vedder is heading to the big screen at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival, but don’t expect just another rockstar highlight reel. His new documentary, “Matter of Time,” takes a hard, human look at the fight against Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), a brutal genetic condition that mostly affects children.

While the music is loud, the message is louder: This is a race against time to cure a rare disease.

However, the film doesn’t play it safe. It follows a string of solo concerts Vedder played in Seattle in 2023. These shows weren’t just for fans. They were fundraisers, laser-focused on supporting the EB Research Partnership (EBRP). This organization, co-founded by Vedder and his wife Jill, has one mission: to cure EB by 2030. That goal powers every frame of this film.

A Mission to Cure Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB)

“Matter of Time” isn’t your usual backstage pass. It blends performance with real stories: Families, doctors, and kids battling EB every single day. You see their struggles, but also their grit. That is what makes this documentary feel like more than a film.

Eddie / IG / “Matter of Time” is a push for progress, a reminder that with enough noise, even the rarest conditions can’t stay in the dark.

Eddie Vedder shows up in this film not just as a rock icon but as an advocate, fundraiser, and friend. His connection to EB started when a close friend’s child was born with the disease. It hit home. From that moment, he and Jill decided to fight with everything they had.

And now, through this film, they are pulling others into the fight too.

The Documentary Portrays a Personal Fight

The Tribeca premiere this June is a loud call to action. The Vedders aren’t asking for sympathy. They are asking people to join a movement. The energy from the concerts pulses through the film. But it is the quiet moments with patients and families that leave the deepest impact. You see hope, frustration, and why this matters.

Vedder’s goal is not just to move hearts. It is to move science forward. That is where the EBRP comes in. Since 2010, they have helped fund over 160 research projects. They have taken a venture philanthropy model, think nonprofit hustle meets startup grind, and turned it into results.

When they started, there were just two clinical trials for EB. Now, there are more than 50.

Real Stories With Real Progress

That growth is not by chance. It is because people like Vedder keep pushing. “Matter of Time” makes that clear. It doesn’t sugarcoat the process, but it shows what is possible when music, medicine, and mission collide.

Eddie / IG / Director Matt Finlin captures that energy in a way that feels raw and real. The concert footage is electric, but it is always anchored in purpose.

Every song is tied to a face, a name, a story.

The Rock Star Turned Relentless Advocate

Eddie Vedder, now 60, doesn’t play the hero. That is the power of this film. He is not on center stage. He is in the crowd, lifting others up. You watch him using his spotlight to shift focus onto those living with EB, those working on the cure, those too young to fight alone.

Behind the scenes, Jill Vedder is just as crucial. She leads the EBRP and keeps the mission sharp. Her voice in the film adds depth, showing how the couple works as a team.

“Matter of Time” is produced by Door Knocker Media and Vitalogy Foundation, with Karen Barzilay also on board. But don’t let the production names distract you. The soul of the film is in the people it follows. The kids with bandaged skin. The parents balancing hope and fear. The doctors chasing answers. That is the heart of the story.
